Poetry Parnassus at the Southbank Centre (26 June 2012) - GalleryNamed after Mount Parnassus, the mythic home of the Muses, this visionary festival brought together poets from around the world for a week of readings and performances from 26th June to 1st July. Inspirational authors, spoken word artists and storytellers from across the globe, gave readings and masterclass workshops.
A host of Carcanet poets were chosen to take part in the
project, including former US poet laureate Kay Ryan, author of Odd Blocks, Bill Manhire (New
Zealand), author of several Carcanet collections and a Collected Poems, Evelyn Schlag (Austria),
whose Selected Poems we
publish, Kate Kilalea (South
Africa), author of One Eye'd Leigh, Venus Khoury-Ghata (Lebanon)
author of Alphabets of Sand, Togara Muzanenhamo
(Zimbabwe) author of Spirit Brides, Mimi Khalvati (Iran),
whose Child: New and Selected poems 1991-2011 was published in November, and Kei Miller (Jamaica),
author of A Light Song of Light.
