A Saturday night to remember with a double bill of poetry (BSL-interpreted)
20:00 Reading - D.A. Powell
21:00 Reading - Mimi Khalvati

To continue this year's series of Poetry Centre Stage events, enjoy a full evening engaging with the words and minds of two award-winning poets. The author of several poetry collections and a fake memoir, D.A. Powell has received the John Updike Award from the American Academy of Arts & Letters, and a National Book Critics Circle Award. His writing covers both the deeply personal and the widely political. His first three collections, Tea (1998), Lunch (2000), and Cocktails (2004), exemplify this style and are considered an honest and moving trilogy about the AIDS epidemic.

Mimi Khalvati, an equally striking poet, has published nine poetry collections, including Child: New & Selected Poems and The Meanest Flower, which was shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize. With a melodic understanding of line and structure, her poetry explores the tension between culture and ideas. Founder of the Poetry School, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, she has dedicated her time not only to her own work, but also encouraging others to develop theirs. Experience the poetry of these two fascinating writers who play with form in a deeply moving way.
