Sinead Morrissey: Durham Book Festival

Sunday 6 Oct 2019, 12:30 to 13:30

Palace Green Library
Palace Green

Join three acclaimed writers as they discuss their experiences working creatively inside the justice system.

Mim Skinner was an art teacher in a women's prison in the North East of England. Jailbirds is her account of the women she worked with there and the challenges they face.

Poet Sinéad Morrissey has worked creatively with a group of male prisoners, recently releasing an arts and poetry anthology entitled Hope on a Postcard.

Avril Joy has twenty-five years' experience working in women's prisons in the North East. Her new poetry collection, Going in with Flowers, takes us inside the prison walls and shares the everyday life of the people who live and work there.

Chaired by Dr Hannah King, Durham University.
