Quote of the Day
Carcanet has always been the place to look for considerations of purely literary and intellectual merit. Its list relies on the vision and the faith and the energy of people who care about books, and values. It is thus as rare as it is invaluable.

Opportunities at Carcanet

 Freelancers:

Carcanet uses a very small pool of freelance editors and proofreaders. Freelances who would like to work for the press are welcome to send their CV with a covering letter to info@carcanet.co.uk, but are strongly advised to study the website first to familiarise themselves with the kinds of books Carcanet publishes. Only appropriately trained and experienced freelancers will be considered. If we think that we may be able to offer you work in the future, we will acknowledge your letter and keep your CV on file.
Work Experience:

During the covid-19 outbreak and its aftermath Carcanet regrets to say that its internship programme has had to be suspended. Because remote and hybrid working are now in place, it has been impossible to restart the programme. As soon as it can resume we will remove this notice from the application page and welcome applications once again.

Carcanet offers one-week work experience placements in the Sales & Marketing department. If you think you may be interested in publishing and/or sales and marketing as a possible career, a one-week placement will give you a brief glimpse into the industry. Please note that we cannot offer editorial work experience.

We aim to provide general information on the publishing industry and how it works, and the opportunity to shadow a range of tasks typically associated with sales and marketing, as well as insight into other departments and the overall structure of the office.

Please note, we can only accept applications from people 18 years old and over and you must have eligibility to work in the UK. Work experience placements last for five days, Monday to Friday, and are unpaid. These placements are in very high demand and sadly we cannot offer a place to everyone who applies, though we will respond to all applicants. We are a very small team, and it may take some time for us to get back to you. Please allow at least three weeks before chasing your application.
