Carcanet Press is our most courageous publisher. When you look at what they have brought out since their beginnings, it makes so many other houses seem timid or merely predictable.

Tookey, Galleymore & Fayyaz Shortlisted for Forward Prizes

Thursday, 23 May 2019

We're overjoyed to announce three shortlistings in this year's Forward Prizes for Poetry - one in each category!

Huge congratulations go to Helen Tookey, who is shortlisted for Best Collection with City of Departures, her second Carcanet collection; Isabel Galleymore, shortlisted for Best First Collection with Significant Other; and Parwana Fayyaz, shortlisted for Best Single Poem with 'Forty Names', published in PN Review 241.

The Prizes have been generously supported by Bookmark since 1991, and by the late Felix Dennis since 2004. Writer and broadcaster Shahidha Bari will chair the Forward Prizes for Poetry 2019 judging panel. She is joined by poets Tara Bergin, Andrew McMillan, and Carol Rumens, alongside Jamie Andrews, Head of Culture and Learning at the British Library.

Last year’s Forward Prizes winners were Danez Smith, Phoebe Power and Liz Berry.

We're so honoured and excited to have been shortlisted in every category - you can read the full shortlist here.

The 28th annual Forward Prizes will be awarded on 20th October 2019 at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre - tickets can be booked here.

Congratulations Helen, Isabel and Parwana!
