Matthew Welton: StAnza Festival

Saturday 12 Mar 2022, 17:30 to 18:30

The Laidlaw Music Centre - McPherson Recital Room
Queen’s Terrace
St Andrews
KY16 9QF

Today’s early evening reading features two well-known poets of the Northern (English) experimental poetry scene, who both play around with narratives of the unexpected through chance technique and other processes. Both poets have been invited to take a performative approach to presenting their experimental narratives; Matt Welton will present work illustrating the panopoly of techniques he uses for complicating narrative structure and order. Tom Jenks’s oblique take on narrative incorporates elements such as found text, chance procedures and surrealism to produce pieces that are less about storytelling itself, and more about creating spaces where stories can happen.
