Colm Toibin: StAnza Festival

Friday 11 Mar 2022, 18:45 to 19:45

The Byre Theatre - Studio Theatre
Abbey Street
St Andrews
KY16 9LA

In an interview with The Guardian newspaper in 2013, Irish novelist Colm Tóibín claimed to be 'against story'. He continued by explaining: 'I remember [the painter] Howard Hodgkin really disliking being called a colourist. People love talking about writers as storytellers, but I hate being called that: it suggests I got it from my grandmother or something, when my writing really comes out of silence. If a storyteller came up to me, I'd run away.' In this evening's event, Colm will join Robyn Marsack via Zoom to read from his work and discuss the publication of his first collection of poetry with Carcanet Press, Vinegar Hill, and its relationship to his novel-writing. We'll find out whether he is equally opposed to the idea of story-telling in poetry!

This ticket is for the live event in St Andrews; Colm Tóibín will appear via Zoom. The ticket price includes a light savoury snack.

Tickets are £9 / £7 / £5 - find out more and buy yours here.
