Location:

Online

Description:

Please join us to celebrate the launch of Where Ferrous Metal Meets Air and Water: Photographs from Rust: The Art Gallery by Stephen Raw. Hosting the reading will be Carcanet author and Curator of Modern Art at The Whitworth Art Gallery, Mary Griffiths, joining Stephen to discuss the new edition. During the event audience members will have the opportunity to ask their own questions. Register here and let us know you can make it by joining the Facebook event.

'Rust: The Art Gallery' is the first gallery of its kind to celebrate rust's colour, texture and sculpture as it ages. This book is a collection of photographs taken by the Director and Senior Curator, Stephen Raw, of pieces of rust too large for inclusion in the gallery itself.

The artist and designer Stephen Raw has been collecting pieces of rust for over five decades. His passion for it has led him to open the world's first gallery devoted to rust. The gallery - small, but perfectly formed - is next to his studio in Old Trafford, Manchester, where he is a self-employed textural artist. His work is varied and includes coin designs for the Royal Mint and memorial stones in Westminster Abbey.

Mary Griffiths studied English at the University of Newcastle and Museum Studies at the University of Manchester. She has worked as a curator since 1989, and is currently Curator of Modern Art at The Whitworth Art Gallery, The University of Manchester.

Registration for this online event will cost £2, later redeemable against the cost of the book. All attendees will receive the discount code and how to purchase the book during and after event.

Please note that there is a limited number of places for the reading, so do book early to avoid disappointment. You should receive a confirmation email with details on how to join after you register. If this does not arrive, please contact us to let us know. Please also be aware that clicking 'attending' on the Facebook event will not guarantee your place - you must complete the Zoom registration here.
