Carcanet at 50: Poem of the Week with Carol Rumens

15:00 on Sunday 24 Nov 2019 to 16:30 on Saturday 24 Aug 2019

Chetham's Library
Long Millgate
M3 1SB

Carol Rumens' popular Poem of the Week blog has been featuring in The Guardian for more than a dozen years. Join her and Carcanet's Michael Schmidt for a wide-ranging conversation about poetry, how to read it, how to illuminate it with commentary and context, and participate in the launch of Smart Devices: 52 Poems from The Guardian 'Poem of the Week'. Poems are presented with Carol's sparkling commentary, and some of the online comments that have sparked debates down the years. We are joined by local writers and literary figures including Simon Armitage, Helen Mort, SuAndi, Afshan D'souza-Lodhi, Stephen Raw, Matthew Frost and Zaffar Kunial, who will read their favourite Carcanet poems from the blog.

Doors open 2.30pm

Tickets for this event are £8/£6 concession (including a complimentary drink), and can be booked via Manchester Festival online here or over the phone on 0843 208 0500.
