Quote of the Day
Carcanet has always been the place to look for considerations of purely literary and intellectual merit. Its list relies on the vision and the faith and the energy of people who care about books, and values. It is thus as rare as it is invaluable.

Ken Cockburn: Journey to Krakow: Poems of Zbigniew Herbert

Thursday 17 Jan 2019, 16:30 to 18:00

Scottish Poetry Library
5 Crichton's Close

A CLPL session for secondary teachers with poet Ken Cockburn, editor and translator of German poetry. He edited Christine Marendon's Heroines from Abroad, published in 2018.

This twilight session introduces teachers to translations of poems by the Polish poet Zbigniew Herbert (1924 - 1998), with practical suggestions for using them in the classroom. It is led by the Edinburgh-based poet Ken Cockburn, and is informed by his recent experiences running sessions on Herbert's poems in four Edinburgh secondary schools. It will be useful for teachers of English, looking for new reading approaches, and new stimuli for creative writing. It may also be of interest to teachers of other subjects e.g. History, Drama and Art.

Tickets are free, but must be reserved via Eventbrite.
