NewsCarcanet's Eleanor Crawforth on Kim Scott Walwyn Prize shortlist Thursday, 19 Apr 2012
We are delighted that Eleanor Crawforth, Editor and Sales & Marketing Manager at Carcanet Press, has been shortlisted for the 2012 Kim Scott Walwyn Prize for Women in Publishing.
Announced at the London Book Fair on Wednesday, the shortlist of four also includes Donna Condon of Little, Brown, Bethan Jones of Random House and Rukhsana Yasmin of Saqi Books. The £1000 prize will be awarded by Faber editor Matthew Hollis at a ceremony at London's Free Word Centre on 9th May. Kate Jury, Chair of the judging panel, commented: ‘As judges we have been struck by the quality, commitment and diversity of the applicants – they have come from major commercial houses and small niche companies; from marketing, sales, PR, and editorial, often combining several of these roles to develop a breadth of experience which is impressive. Choosing a shortlist from amongst such remarkable entrants has been both very hard and a privilege.’ The judges praised Eleanor for 'the sheer breadth of her role and the way in which, in a relatively short career, she has been able to develop successful and recognised editorial skills and judgement, and grow new authors. At the same time she has developed marketing, sales, and PR roles for Carcanet – negotiating new sales and distribution, building an e-book list, and cultivating relationships with reviewers and readers. It is impressive the way that she has used these different aspects of her job to build a strong publishing identity when it could have been all too easy to be distracted by the range of responsibility.' Founded in 2003, the Prize honours the life and career of Kim Scott Walwyn, a Publishing Director at Oxford University Press who died in 2002, and celebrates exceptional female publishers. The prize is administered by Booktrust, in partnership with the Society of Young Publishers and the Publishing Training Centre. Visit www.booktrust.org.uk/KSW for more information. Next Item |
