Wednesday, 12 Sep 2007

Introducing the Oxford Poets To celebrate the publication of Oxford Poets Anthology 2007, we are offering readers a unique introduction to the OxfordPoets imprint.

Five titles have been hand picked to give readers a taste of the variety and quality of the list. From Next Generation poet Jane Draycott to the internationally revered Charles Tomlinson, this rich selection includes poets who have appeared in some of the previous OxfordPoets anthologies. A huge saving of £17.73 makes this the ideal way for readers to begin an OxfordPoets library.

The OxfordPoets imprint has its origins in 1999, when Carcanet acquired Oxford University's fine poetry list. The OxfordPoets list is now edited by David Constantine, Robyn Marsack and Bernard O'Donoghue and published by Carcanet in Manchester

In their introduction to the new anthology the editors David Constantine and Bernard O'Donoghue write:

In the first OxfordPoets anthology in 2000, we said we had 'no editorial programme or ideology beyond a desire to represent the best', what we found 'most compelling in terms of formal and rhythmic invention'. There has been no change in our original principles and priorities. What our poets have in common is commitment and a seriousness of purpose, whichever part of the poetic world they operate in, a faithfulness to the truth of experience in the very diverse kinds of writing represented.
