Quote of the Day
I'm filled with admiration for what you've achieved, and particularly for the hard work and the 'cottage industry' aspect of it.

NewsA.E. Stallings and Jay Gao Longlisted for Runciman Award 2023 Tuesday, 10 Jan 2023
We're happy to announce that This Afterlife by A.E. Stallings and Imperium by Jay Gao have been longlisted for The Anglo-Hellenic League Runciman Award 2023!
The Anglo-Hellenic League Runciman Award is an annual literary award for the best books about Greece or on a Greek subject, with the longlisted titles spanning Hellenic experience from antiquity until the modern day. The shortlist will be announced in April, with the awards ceremony taking place on 19th June. Congratulations to Alicia and Jay for this excellent achievement! You can read the full list here.
Raised in Atlanta, Georgia but now living in Athens, Greece, A.E. Stallings' poems come out of life's dailiness - as a wife, mother, teacher, an expatriate between languages and a brilliant translator of ancient and modern Greek. In This Afterlife, current events and ancient history are always rubbing shoulders, where she explores motherhood, marriage, mortality and mythology with her trademark clarity and playfulness.
In Jay Gao's debut collection, Imperium, episodes from Homer's Odyssey are re-imagined as Gao cuts across poetic traditions, traverses mythic cartographies and explores forms of absolute and intimate power. Imperium is an imaginative meditation on how the past lives on in the present by way of, and beyond, a global poetics of diaspora. Next Item |
