  • DANILO KIS was born in 1935 in Subotica, on Yugoslavia's border with Hungary. His father, of Hungarian-Jewish extraction, died in Auschwitz. His mother was a Christian Montenegran. Raised in Hungary and Montenegro, he read literature at the University of Belgrade. He worked as a teacher in France and died in Paris in 1989.
