Quote of the Day
Carcanet Press is our most courageous publisher. When you look at what they have brought out since their beginnings, it makes so many other houses seem timid or merely predictable.

  • About
  • Roger Finch was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1937, and graduated with a B.A.in Music from George Washington University and a PhD in Linguistics from Harvard University. He spent most of his life in Japan, teaching English and Modern American Poetry at universities in and around Tokyo. Whilst there he compiled his first and only collection of poems published by Carcanet, According to Lilies (1992), receiving positive reviews. He also contributed to PN Review on several occasions. His poems are vivid in imagery and rich in sound, and frequently follow a syllabic form - influenced by the traditional poetry of Japan. He died in October 2019, having returned to the US in 2008.
